James Gordon Bennett (Jr.) 

 

  • Publisher, editor in cheif, and owner of the New York Herald newspaper in 1874. 

  • Known as one of the richest men in New York

  • He believed that "a newspaper should not merely report stories; it should create them." He added drama and humor to the news.

  • The Herald's most known story was called "A shocking Sabbath Carnival Death". 

    • This story was about zoo animals escaping and killing several people.

  • He was the first ever to interview president Martin Van Buren.
